Day 1 : Arrive in Bali

We will meet in the afternoon for an introduction and briefing followed by our welcome dinner at a local restaurant inspired by Asian influences and with wonderful views of the river and Tjampuhan ridge.

Inclusions: Airport pick up. Welcome drinks and dinner with alcoholic drinks.

Overnight at Komaneka Bisma 5*

Komaneka is a family-owned hospitality brand from Ubud linked to the Royal family. The Bisma property is a 5* resort located in the city center, walking distance to many of the shops and restaurants, in a breathtaking spot surrounded by rice fields, palm trees and thick forest.

We will stay in the very spacious suites, all of which come with balconies facing the paddies and a separate lounge, bathroom and bedroom space.

The resort has two swimming pools including an infinity pool, and an adults-only one. There is an in-house spa and a wonderful open-air restaurant with jungle views.

Day 2 : Gunung Kawi Temple, Tirta Empul and Goa Gajah

Stairs: Over 400 stairs each way in the various sites.
Steps: 5,000-10,000.
Driving time: 3-4 hours depending on traffic.

Welcome to Bali!

We will start the day with a wonderful breakfast at the hotel’s terrace with views over the rice fields before heading out to visit one of Bali’s most magical temples, Gunung Kawi.

To get to the temple we will have to descend several steep stairs down the valley, all the way down to the river bed.

This ancient temple complex carved on the rock wall is known as The Valley of The Balinese Kings and contains 10 rock-cut shrines and several funerary monuments to the 11th century royal kings of Ubud.

We will continue our day at Tirta Empul, the 10th century Temple of the Holy Water.

This temple complex is famous for its water purification pools and fountains that use holy water from the natural spring of the same name and are frequented by Balinese and tourists.

We will explore the temple complex and learn more about the Hindu water purification ceremony.

After Tirta Empul, we will have lunch at a local warung before continuing to Goa Gajah Temple – The Elephant Cave Temple.

This temple complex was built in the 9th century and is listed as a World Heritage Site.

The complex is set around a cave temple carved in the mountain and dedicated to Vishnu. It was originally built as a meditation space which then expanded to include other buildings.

We will return back to the hotel where you’ll have free time to explore Ubud on your own or chill by the hotel’s pool.

Dinner is at leisure tonight.

Inclusions: Transportation in private minibus, breakfast at the hotel, lunch at a local restaurant, entry tickets to Tirta Empul, Gunung Kawi and Goa Gajah.

Overnight at Komaneka Bisma 5*

Day 3 : Cooking class, Hidden waterfall and water purification ceremony

Stairs: Around 100.
Steps: Less than 5,000.
Driving time: 1-2 hours if participating in the water purification ceremony.

We will start the day with another wonderful breakfast at the hotel before meeting our head forager and chef for a trip to rural Bali.

Our day will start with a foraging adventure into the forest where we will learn how to forage and taste local herbs, flowers, plants and vegetables by the hand of a young, up and coming creative chef and forager that is making waves in Indonesia’s culinary scene.

We will continue with a cooking class where we will prepare several local dishes together with what we have foraged and enjoy what we cook for lunch.

This is your chance to learn how to make satay skewers, the spicy sambal sauce and other goodies we will enjoy all week, as well as about the natural bounty of Bali’s nature.

After lunch, it’s time to get wet at one of the least visited waterfalls in Bali.

This hidden gem is well off the beaten path and rarely featured on itineraries which means that we will have it all to ourselves.

It’s time to get wet and take a dip among the lush jungle or jump from the top of the waterfall into the water.

OPTIONAL: Participate in a Hindu water purification ceremony with a local priestess. This will be a genuine experience that will involve blessings with holy water, prayers, bathing in holy springs and fountains and drinking of holy water. The experience is included and offered optionally to those who want to immerse themselves in the spiritual part of Balinese Hindu life.

Alternatively, explore Ubud on your own, go shopping or relax at the hotel’s facilities.

The hotel is located in a quiet street smack in the city center. You can walk out and explore the many local stores, Ubud life or even souvenir shopping at the main market.

We will meet back for dinner at one of the most famous, hip and cool plant-based restaurants in Ubud. The restaurant is located up on a hill and has amazing views of the area.

Live chill out music is always playing in the evenings and will make for a meaningful way to end the day.

Inclusions: Breakfast at the hotel, wild foraging, cooking class and lunch, transportation in a minibus and entry tickets to the waterfall, water purification ceremony (optional but included) and plant-based dinner with drinks.

Overnight at Komaneka Bisma 5*

Day 4 : Monkey Forest, Jalituwih rice fields, Ulun Danu Beratan

Steps: 5,000-10,000 steps.
Driving time: 3-4 hours.

We will have one last breakfast at the hotel before leaving Ubud behind and heading north.

Our first stop will be at the Sangeh Monkey Forest, a thick forest made of tall trees with a temple that is home to friendly macaque monkeys.

We will be visiting this one instead of the very popular Ubud Monkey Forest where monkeys can be aggressive and are overly used to humans.

Sandeh is quiet, beautiful and lush and we will stay at a safe distance from the wildlife and observe them play and enjoy themselves.

Our day will continue further north at the Jatiluwih rice fields where we will stop for a hike among the beautiful paddies and learn more about how rice is planted and harvested.

We will enjoy lunch among the rice fields before continuing to Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, a complex right on the water of a lake of the same name.

Ulun Danu was built in the 17th century and has several beautiful floating shrines right on the water against the Bedugul Mountain.

There will be free time in the temple to explore on your own and we will then meet again to drive to the hotel.

The drive will climb up on a winding road along the twin lakes and offer stunning views of the area.

After checking in to the lodge, we will join a coffee plantation tour and learn about the two types of coffee beans, how coffee is grown and harvested and how it is processed into coffee, and we will participate in bean roasting and grinding process, and enjoy a cup.

There will be free time to enjoy the lodge’s infinity pools which has incredible views over the valley below.

We will meet for dinner at the hotel’s Indonesian restaurant to enjoy northern Balinese recipes, family style.

We will stay at the lodge’s suites, which are spread across the plantation and surrounded by lush vegetation. Each room has a free standing bath and separate shower and four poster beds. Twin rooms will have separate mattresses pushed together.

Day 5 : Git Git Waterfall, Spa time

Stairs: 100 stairs.
Steps: 5,000 steps.
Driving time: 2 hours.

We will wake up in the jungle, above the clouds, and enjoy an amazing breakfast by the infinity pool area before heading out for our own waterfall chasing adventure.

We will arrive at Git Git waterfall and connect with our local guide for the hike down to the waterfall along a paved path.

Git Git waterfall is one of the most powerful in Bali and you can feel its energy then moment you approach its base and enter the temple grounds.

There will be time to swim at the safe spots the local guide will indicate, and take as many photos as you like.

We will continue our journey along the northern coastal road, cruising by the black sand beaches, until we arrive at our spa hotel, right on the beach.

We will enjoy lunch at the hotel then have the afternoon free to enjoy the pool and beach and a spa treatment per person (half of the guests will have it today, the other half the next day).

We have booked the higher category rooms that are decorated with traditional wooden furniture pieces and clean lines.

The gardens are peaceful and will invite you to relax under the swaying trees.

Day 6 : Mount Batur sunrise and lava fields

Steps: Less than 5,000 steps.
Driving time: 3 hours.
Climb of Mt. Batur: 10 km walk in 2-3 hours for a 700m elevation gain.

The day will start around 4.30am, when we will grab our packed breakfast boxes and board our 4×4 jeeps towards the volcanic area of north Bali.

We will start the day with a cup of freshly brewed coffee at a handpicked cafe which has a privileged location and panoramic views over Mount Batur, Mount Agung and Mount Abang for our sunrise viewpoint.

These 3 active volcanoes are near each other and erupt regularly, most recently in 2018, when the eruption closed various airports in the area and caused the evacuation of the nearby villages.

If the cloud coverage permits, we may even see Indonesia’s tallest mountain of Rinjani in the horizon, even though it is in the island of Lombok.

After coffee, we will return to our jeeps and descend to the base of Mount Batur for a 4×4 adventure in the lava fields.

We will pop the rooftops open and enjoy the ride around the lava fields, where we will stop for photos and to get up and close with the lava rocks.

We will stop for breakfast at the based of the volcano with another cup of freshly brewed Balinese coffee. There will be time for a walk and to take in the views.

OPTIONAL: Those who are interested in climbing Mount Batur can do so from here. The return journey to the top takes about 3 hours and warrants stunning views of the area. The climb requires no technical equipment or experience, and is done on a largely sandy / muddy path. Guests will be escorted by an experienced local guide.

We will continue our morning with another 3-min bumpy ride through the rocky lava fields until we leave the volcano behind and head towards Lake Batur.

We will meet our boatmen for a boat tour on the lake from where we can admire Ulun Danu Batur temple from the water and against the backdrop of the volcano, a beautiful sight.

Day 7 : Besakih Temple and beach time

Steps: Less than 5,000 steps.
Driving time: 3-4 hours depending on traffic.

Enjoy an optional sunrise yoga session on the hotel’s lawn before breakfast to start off the day with the right mindset.

We will leave the hotel after breakfast and drive towards Besakih – The Mother Temple.

Located on the slopes of Mount Agung, Bali’s tallest mountain, and 1,200m above sea level, the Mother Temple was founded in the 13th century.

This is Bali’s most important and largest temple complex and is made of 23 temples dedicated to the ancestors of each Balinese clan as well as the main temple dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma.

To access the temple, we will take a buggy up the steep hill, and will walk back down.

We will continue the day at one of the least visited and most remote beaches in Bali and one of the few white sand beaches outside of the Nusa Dua Peninsula.

About Your Host, Henni

Henni is originally from a small village in East Java but moved to Bali at the age of 8.

The single mom of 3 has been showing guests around the island since 2017, after a chance encounter with a tourist inspired her to swap her baking job with one in tourism, and she never looked back.

Henni is happiest when she hears guests say “wow” with a wide smile and wider eyes. She loves meeting people, showing them her favorite places, letting them taste the best local foods, and sharing the Balinese way of life.

She also enjoys listening about other countries and traveling through her guests’ eyes, especially solo female travelers who share their experiences with her. Through their stories, she can feel how big, diverse and beautiful our planet is.

Henni is most excited to take you to the non-touristy places, the ones without Instagram spots and queueing for pictures, the real Bali through Henni’s eyes.

Bonus: Our May 2025 trip will be accompanied by our Co-Founder Mar Pages, and a professional photographer who will take pictures of the group for you to treasure, share and keep.

All our tours follow the same values and philosophy that makes us who we are which you can find here.

Our tour stays away from spots designed “for the gram”. We will waste no time queueing for fake mirror reflection photos, pretend religious water purification ceremonies or crowded spots that are the poster child of mass tourism.

We have visited Bali 13+ times and have curated an itinerary that focuses on learning about Balinese culture in a mindful, immersive and genuine manner, while supporting local women and enjoying the amazing nature that makes it so special. We stay away from the peak season and visit when the island’s roads aren’t cloaked with traffic jams and fumes.

Frequently Asked Questions

This is a trip of a lifetime and we know there are many things you’d like to know more about.

What are the arrival and departure details?

The trip starts in Ubud and ends in Seminyak, both on the island of Bali. The only international airport is
I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar (Airport code: DPS).

As the trip to Bali tends to be a long one for most, we recommend arriving a day earlier to account for any flight delays or cancellations, and to rest before the start of the tour. If you plan to arrive on the day the tour starts, we recommend landing no later than 12pm so you can freshen up before the Welcome dinner. You can depart anytime on departure day.

What are the COVID measures in Bali and how will you ensure everyone is safe?

We care deeply about the wellbeing of our guests and our trip follows all local regulations. We require guests who develop a cough or cold-like symptoms to use a mask and separate themselves from the rest of the guests. COVID testing is not mandatory though it will be encouraged.

What if I cannot travel because of COVID restrictions?

Payments are not refundable if the trip goes ahead. This is why we require all guests to purchase travel insurance that covers unforeseen circumstances that would prevent them from traveling.

In the event that the trip needs to be postponed for reasons beyond our control such as a global pandemic or COVID after the the 30% deposit is due, any payments made will be put towards a similar trip in the future.

We recommend checking with an aggregator such as Travel Insurance Master to compare quotes and coverage.

Do I need a visa for Indonesia?

Most travelers need a visa for Indonesia. This can be obtained in advance, online, or on the spot at the airport on arrival.

What is included in the trip?

This trip includes 8 breakfasts, 7 lunches and 6 dinners. There is an options fine dining dinner at Room4Dessert that can be added via our portal.

All activities mentioned in the itinerary are also included, unless specifically mentioned like in the case of the water purification ceremony.

Can I have a room to myself?

All costs above are considered on a sharing basis with two guests per room in twin bedding; we will pair you with another solo female traveler on the trip. If you wish to have your own room, a single supplement applies and you can select the single room in the Booking section above.

I have read that women who are menstruating are not allowed in temples in Bali, is that true?

Yes, Balinese temples are mostly Hindu and do not allow entrance to women who are on their period. Because we visit many temples and places of workship during our trip, we recommend bearing this in mind and managing it in advance if at all possible to avoid missing out on Besakih Temple, Tirta Empul, Goa Gajah, Ulun Danu Beratan, and Gunung Kawi Temples.

Can special dietary requirements be accommodated?

Vegetarian and vegan diets can be accommodated albeit options can sometimes be limited for lunch when we stop at local restaurants to eat. We are unable to accommodate celiac disease due to the risk of cross contamination.

I want to bring my partner to the trip

This is a female-only small group trip specifically designed for women traveling on their own. If you wish to travel with a female friend, partner, family member, etc. they are absolutely welcome, however we are not able to book male travelers on this trip.

I want to bring my daughter

How wonderful! If your daughter is above the age of 16, we will be glad to have her with us.

Will the guides be female?

Yes, this trip is hosted by a Balinese woman and we will support many local women along the way including the restaurant owners, the hotels we stay at and several of the activities we participate in.

What medication do I need to take for a trip to Bali?

We recommend talking to your doctor to decide what medication and vaccinations you need to get before your trip. You can see the CDC list of recommendations here.

What should I pack for this adventure?

Bali is hot and humid all year round and rain is always a possibility. Our trip is active and there will be many stairs, steep walks and hikes, so comfortable, breezy and summer clothing is a must, as is swimming gear and proper footwear.

What happens if I get sick?

The prospect of getting sick while alone in a foreign country is daunting, and this is why we require all our guests have comprehensive travel and medical insurance that includes international evacuation. Should you fall sick, we will escort you to the nearest medical facility so you can get the help you need.

What travel and medical insurance should I get?

While the cost of medical healthcare in Indonesia is relatively affordable, travel and medical insurance is mandatory to come on our trips and we recommend you get the most comprehensive coverage that includes international evacuation. We recommend checking with an aggregator such as Travel Insurance Master to compare quotes and coverages.

Can I make various instalments for this trip?

Our payment plan includes 2 instalments: a 30% payment to secure your spot, and the remaining 70% payment 120 days before the trip. You can make any partial payment between the 30% and the 70%.

Can I pay by credit card?

Yes payments can be made by credit card or by wire transfer.
